We are a team of parents, engineers, community advocates and entrepreneurs, and our goal is to empower the tech community to give back to the broader community.
Great! How are we going to do this?
We are focused on supporting Redwood City School District and the city of Redwood City, because public schools and our city are the organizations that support the entire community to help build for a better future.
Cody has worked closely with the Silicon Valley tech community since 2011 when he founded his company RockIT Recruiting, which partners with tech companies to help build their teams.
Through building teams, he has gotten to intimately know the people that are the building blocks of these great companies. Those people are the inspiration to start Community Best, to build a stronger and more united community. Community Best will support the Redwood City School District (RCSD) and the City of Redwood City, which are the building blocks of this great community.
Cody is excited to raise his 3 kids in Redwood City and has become an active member of the community. He is co-chair for the Roosevelt Neighborhood Association, Mr. Redwood City People’s Choice 2018, and winner of the sesquicentennial chicken wing cooking competition.
Jane is a recent addition to Redwood City, but no stranger to the tech community. As co-founder of RockIT Recruiting, she and the team have helped tech startups build their teams for the past 7 years. Jane is a strong believer that problems are here to be solved, and that a community driving towards a common goal can always craft solutions. She, her husband, 2 daughters, and dog are exploring Redwood City and getting to know their new home. Community Best makes her even more excited about what this new home has to offer.
Dan has lived in Redwood City for 10 years, and the Peninsula all his life. Having been a software engineer in the Silicon Valley for the past decade, he has seen Redwood City evolve into what it is today. He is a big believer in what Redwood City has to offer, from music festivals to cultural celebrations, and can't wait to raise his two young daughters in the area. He's worked at various startups, now currently at Google, and has seen colleagues express the desire to give back and volunteer to the greater community. Dan wants to help enable that drive by being a part of Community Best.
Getting Stuff Done
Community Best Chief of Development and Strategy, Derek Voellinger, has a strong background in marketing/advertising and has dabbled with nonprofits. Growing up in St.Louis, MO, he has a love for the St.Louis Cardinals and a passion for volunteering and helping his community thrive. Now being in Redwood City, he has the same desire and passion for community engagement. Derek is already involved in his neighborhood association acting as the Community Partnerships Director and enjoyed taking 2nd place at the San Mateo History Museum Scavenger Hunt.
Advisor - Mayor of Redwood City
Mayor Ian Bain has served as a member of Redwood City’s city council since 2003 and has been a leading voice for government transparency, a strong supporter of small businesses and a champion for the average citizen. When he is not helping run the City, he runs corporate communications for a global technology company, and has worked in the tech industry in Silicon Valley since the late 90's.
Ian is a life-long Bay Area resident, attended local public schools and graduated from UC Berkeley with a degree in Political Science. His interest in government comes from his parents, who instilled in him the belief that we should all use our gifts to help others, and since then, he has contributed to his community in many ways over the years. He has been involved with many community initiatives such as Project Read and Peninsula Habitat for Humanity.
With kids of his own, Ian is excited to help all the children of Redwood City by serving as an Advisory to the Community Best team.
